SPORTING AIMS AND PROVISION FOR SPORT 2001 - 2004

Swanmead Community School aims to provide a range of sporting opportunities for all students with an emphasis on promoting safe physical activity, a healthy lifestyle and developing sporting standards throughout the school.

All students experience a minimum of 120 minutes of physical education each week (16% curriculum time). During this allocation students develop skills in a range of team games (cricket, football, hockey, netball), dance, gymnastics and, athletics. There is an annual sports day and the school actively participates in the Sports Council's Super Sports programme.

Specialist teachers are fully qualified to teach across the PE curriculum and hold a variety of coaching qualifications, including football, tennis and basketball at the highest levels.
The school has a gymnasium, 4 tennis courts, 2 netball courts and a good-sized playing field. An extensive range of extra-curricular sport clubs are offered to students through the teaching staff and community tutors. These currently include athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross-country, football, netball. The school actively promotes community sports clubs and encourages students to join local sports teams.
