English

English is divided into Key Stages. All students follow the National Literacy Strategy, both at KS2 and KS3. Students are able to progress smoothly between these stages within our middle school system.
All students are set by ability for English into either three or four groups, and are taught by specialist English teachers. We aim to give all students a wide range of experiences related to reading, writing, speaking and listening. In order to achieve their full potential some will receive extra support and others extra challenge.
There are varied activities for the students to take part in which we hope will enrich their learning. These activities include: The Rotary Youthspeaks competition, theatre visits, poetry competitions and drama workshops.
The picture to the left and below shows some year 8's during the 'Shakespeare 4 Kidz' workshops run in school for all year 8 students.
As a follow up the year group went to see their lively performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', at The Playhouse in Weston Super Mare.
The picture to the left shows some year 5 students who studied 'Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. To tie in with the terms recycling theme they then built their own Iron Man models from recycled materials. The students then produced instructions on how they built their model.
The picture on the right shows a group of year 5 students with their model of Ted Hughes 'Iron Man', together with the instructions they wrote for building it.
